Letterkenny's Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Rain Couldn't Dampen the Spirits..

Despite the weather the crowds came out to watch the Letterkenny St.Patrick's Day Parade. Over 40 fantastic entries weathered the storm to take part in the annual parade and there were spectators lining the route from Station Roundabout to Oldtown to cheer them on.

The day started with the Irish Dancers from the Ferry School of Dancing. Aged from 4 to 12 years of age they danced jigs and reels as if there was no rain. Then Blaithin Gallagher sang the National Anthem and the parade got underway.

The Parade itself was led by the Irish Defence Forces Colour Party and Infantry Battalion and then followed floats and walking entries from sporting clubs, dance groups, businesses and community groups and lots more besides. All the amazing work put in to the entries brough colour and smailes to the streets of Letterkenny.

As always the judges had a difficult task picking the winners:

Overall winner Pinehill Studios
Best Float and winner of the Danny Doherty Memorial Plaque – Pinehill Studios
Best Community Entry – Donegal Travellers Project
Best Sporting Entry – St.Eunan’s GAA
Best Carnival/Youth Entry – Zona Dance
Best Agricultural Entry– Funky Monkey
Best Business Entry – TFS
Best Band – Letterkenny Senior Accordian Band
Best Environmental Entry – Donegal Fire Service

Gerard McCormick, President of Letterkenny Chamber the organisers of the Parade would like to thank all the businesses large and small that sponsored the parade. "This year we reached out to the wider business community of Letterkenny and they responded with financial contributions that are invaluable to the Chamber in organising the parade each year. Thier support is very much appreciated. I would also like to thank my colleagues on the Chamber Council, the staff of the Chamber and those who volunteered to help out to act as stewards, bucket collectors and to carry sponsor signs. Everyone involved gave willingly of their time to ensure the parade went off well and safely. Lastly I would like to thank all participants. Each group put such a creative effort into their entries and the crowd that turned out in bad weather rewarded them with a great reception."
